Robert Alvin Laird

February 24, 1951 - July 8, 2023

Robert Alvin Laird, of Northeast, Maryland, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2023. He was born on February 24th, 1951,  in Pennsylvania to the late Harry and Lillian Laird (nee, Sill).

Rob was a man well loved by family and friends. He had an essence about him, if you knew him, you know exactly what we mean...He was a wise man that loved to share stories of his life with those he loved. His stories offered a good laugh when needed, encouragement in hard times and wisdom to help you grow in peace. Rob made a large impact on his family, friends and the community with his words and passion for creativity.

Robert owned a landscaping and hardscaping business a great portion of his life, designing custom outdoor living spaces. This was a passion he passed on to his son, Ian (weasel), and spent many years working with him while he built his own business. He was an avid artist creating whimsical vessels (this is what he called his creations) out of sandcasted leaves that he grew in his own garden. He was very successful in sharing and selling his art with others. Many remember him for his creations! He had an immense knowledge of horticulture that he was passionate on sharing with family and friends. One of his favorite hobbies was birdwatching and many other outdoor adventures, especially boating to Manitoulin Island in Canada. He loved walking for miles with his dog Maxwell, socializing with the many friends he had around town. He had a passion for animals and has taken in many outdoor cats, nursing them back to health and keeping their bellies full.

Robert is Survived by his children; Rachel Miranda-Laird and her wife Bre’Anne, Ian Laird and his wife Harmony and Haley Nelson and her husband Chad; Grand children Cameron McElroy, Avery McElroy, Elsie Nelson, Miley Nelson and Louis Nelson. He was also survived by two siblings Samuel Laird and his Wife Sheryl and Roberta Gdowik and her husband John.
