Richard "Chef Avery" Jones

September 22, 1948 – January 6, 2025

Richard Jones affectionately known to his close friends as “Chef Avery” passed away
peacefully on January 6, 2025 at the age of 76. Born on September 22, 1948 in West
Grove, Pennsylvania. Richard lived a life of creativity, dedication, and service, leaving a
lasting legacy in his family, community and beyond.

A master carpenter, Richard had a passion for restoring historic buildings, breathing new
life into cherished structures of the past. His craftsmanship reflected a meticulous
attention to detail and a deep respect for history, preserving these spaces for future
generations to appreciate.

In addition to his skill in carpentry, Richard was also a talented chef. As “Chef Avery” he
delighted friends and family with meals that were as memorable as the stories he shared
at the table. Richard believed in the power of food to bring people together, and his
kitchen was always a place of warmth laughter and connection.

Richard was deeply committed to his community. A proud member of the Veterans
(VFW) Auxiliary, he dedicated time to supporting veterans and their families. He was also
the founder and president of the “Geezer Patriots”, a club that celebrated fellowship and
a shared appreciation for history and patriotism.

Richard is survived by his son, Taylor Z Gardner, of Bellevue, WA; his brother, Rodney
Jones, and his wife, Virginia of Parkesburg, PA; his sister, Jean Edwards, and her
husband Rick, of Kennett Square, PA and his sister Mary Jones-Mellet and her husband,
Michael, of Pond Eddy NY. Additionally, he is survived by a special cousin Alan Jones
of Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Norman Jones Jr. of
Houston TX, and William Dean Jones, of Atlanta, GA.

Richard “Chef Avery” Jones leaves behind a legacy craftsmanship, delicious meals, and
cherished relationships. Though he is no longer with us, the impact he made on those
who knew and loved him will endure forever.
