Ray Lin Woodie

December 4th, 1942 - May 16th, 2024

Ray Lin Woodie, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, in Newark, Delaware on May 16, 2024, at the age of 81. Ray was born December 4, 1942, in Ashe County, North Carolina, to his parents Nellie Bledsoe Woodie and Linnie Harding Woodie.

Ray attended school in Ashe County before enlisting in the United States Army, where he served his country with honor and dedication. Following his military service, Ray excelled as a heavy equipment operator and later became a successful business owner in the house-moving industry, where he specialized in relocating historical structures. He was an exceptionally hard worker, and his mind had a remarkable ability to solve any mechanical problem that crossed his path.

Outside of his professional endeavors, Ray enjoyed hunting and tending his garden. Ray also had a passion for raising Chesapeake Bay Retrievers, finding solace and companionship in the loyal dogs he cared for.

Ray will be remembered for his hard-working nature, his keen problemsolving skills, and his dedication to his family and friends.  Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie and Linnie Woodie, his brother, Irving Woodie, and son-in-law, Bradley Wise. Ray leaves behind a legacy of love and memories with his daughters, Shelley Wise Ferrell (James), Stacia Emerick (Brett), and Jerilyn Woodie. He is also survived by his dear sister and brothers, Dr. Susan Fetcho (John), Mike Woodie (Grishka), Tony Woodie, Jeff Woodie, Joe Woodie, and their families, as well as his cherished grandchildren Constance Ferrell, James Ferrell-Labelle, Madeline Bennett, Raegan Emerick, Elaina Emerick, Lola Ferrell, and Faith Emerick.

Ray will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his memory continue to bring joy to those who carry his love in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations in Ray’s name to the Down Syndrome Association of Delaware, P.O. Box 747, Middletown, DE, 19709, www.dsadelaware.org/donate/.

A memorial service will be held in the near future and family and friends will be notified.
