Jaunieta Sue Wassum

Jaunieta Sue Wassum, age 80 , of Elkton, Maryland, passed away on November 4th, 2024, at the Senator Bob Hooper House.
Born on June 9th, 1944 in Davenport Virginia to Elbert Walter Ball and Ruby Arnette Patton Ball. She was a 1962 graduate of Council High School and was captain of the cheerleading squad having selected the school mascot (Council Cobras). She was married to the late Gerald D. Wassum until his passing in 1991.
Jaunieta, known by all as Sue or Susie, previously worked at Bata Shoe Company, Glen Eagles Sewing Factory, for a government contractor, and as a private nanny/housekeeper. She was a longtime member of Mountain Christian Church, having served in the children's ministry and special needs ministry. She was an aspiring actress, having performed in several plays and dramatic readings. She enjoyed crafts, embroidery, reading, and travel. She was also known for offering a piece of chewing gum as a distraction to distressed children. Sue was a survivor of breast cancer and was later stricken with Lewy Body Dementia.
Sue is survived by her loving caregiver daughter, Melissa, her brother Frank (Linda) Ball of Lebanon Virginia, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Russell, Donald, Roger, and Gary Lee, and two sisters, Iris Foote and Betty Ball. Memorial contributions may be made in memorial of Sue to either Mountain Christian Church in Joppa Maryland or the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill Maryland.
A funeral service honoring Sue will be held on Friday at 12pm, with a visitation begining at 11am at Mountain Christian Church, 1824 Mountain Rd, Joppatowne, MD 21085. Interment will follow at Bel Air Memorial Gardens, 809 Rock Spring Rd, Bel Air, MD 21014.
