Doris Emily Synic
July 24, 1939 – November 10, 2024
Doris Synic, beloved sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of eighty-five. Born in 1939, Doris began life at the Winterthur estate outside of Wilmington, DE. She was the youngest daughter in her family and had fond memories of growing up there, learning independence and resilience. She graduated from Alexis I. du Pont High School in 1957 and worked at Wilmington Trust while still in school. In 1976, she completed a course at Delaware Technical Community College and also worked for DuPont, Woolworth’s, Avon, and Quorum. Despite the rocky waters she experienced during her marriage, Doris carved her own path, supporting herself and her three children.
Doris was known for her strong will, sharp wit, and unbreakable commitment to her family. She faced hardship with humor and a dose of sarcasm. A fiercely protective figure, she always ensured her loved ones wore coats in the winter and had plenty of food on their plates. Her home was a safe haven, particularly for her grandson Michael, whom she raised as her own from a young age, providing him with stability, support, and the foundation for generational wealth. The home Doris created now continues to shelter and protect her family, a testament to her lasting impact.
Doris was also an artist at heart, winning a local art contest as a young woman and dreaming of attending art school, though family obligations prevented her from pursuing that path. Her creativity was matched only by her lively spirit; she loved a good time and was often seen laughing with family at gatherings, sharing a drink or two, and enjoying life’s lighter moments. Even into her seventies, Doris remained a joyful presence at family events, sharing in the laughter and creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Doris’s pride in her family was unwavering. She held her children and grandchildren close to her heart and always showed up in times of need, providing support through legal troubles, difficult relationships, and life’s challenges. Her strength and love for her family were constants, offering a source of grounding for all who knew her.
Doris leaves behind a legacy of resilience, independence, and love. Her life reminds us all not to delay our happiness, to face life with courage, and to cherish the moments we have. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her, but her memory will live on in the lives she touched and the strength she passed down.
