Charles Richard Browning
February 3, 1944 - September 5, 2024
Charles Richard Browning of Newark, DE, passed away on September 5th, 2024. He was born in Exeter, NH on February 3, 1944 to the late Charles and Merina Browning. He was the eldest of three siblings.
Charles (aka Captain Chuck) had a huge heart and loved to help others. He was well known for his Dad Jokes, and you could always - ALWAYS! - count on him to have one at the ready no matter the situation. No one could deliver a Dad Joke like he could.
He spent time counseling those in AA and would have celebrated 40 years of sobriety on September 18th. He also loved his church and spent a lot of time with his congregation. Chuck served in the Air Force, and it was during his time stationed in Dover that he met Louise, the love of his life. They married in 1966. In their nearly 58 years of marriage they had two children (Cynthia and Steven), three grandchildren (Kilian, Keegan and Tyler) and 2 great-grandchildren (Finnegan and Remus).
He enjoyed his time with friends and family, and he loved to work on projects around the house, both inside and out. Their home is filled with his personal touches everywhere you look. Upon retirement, Chuck spent a lot of time on his boat before eventually selling it, but he always enjoyed his time on the water.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Pearl Louise Browning; his children, Cynthia O’Donnell (Shawn) and Steven Browning (Joelle); his grandchildren, Kilian O’Donnell (Elea), Keegan O’Donnell, and Tyler Browning; and his great-grandchildren Finnegan O’Donnell and Remus Browning. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Browning (Kathy). He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Merina Browning, as well as his sister, Jane Browning, who passed earlier this year.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, September 14th, at 1:00PM at the Kingdom Hall, 2101 Red Lion Road, Bear, DE, 19701. A small private luncheon for the immediate family only will follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to either your favorite charity or to JW.com @ https://donate.jw.org/ui/E/donate-home.html#/donate
