Bonnie Lee Fitzgerald Gompf

November 29, 1953 - March 6, 2025

Bonnie Gompf, 71, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully on March 6th, with her loving
husband beside her.

Bonnie’s life was a tapestry of rich and royal hue. Described by some as “a force”, Bonnie
emanated warmth and compassion, and was always quick to smile or joke. Her sweet heart was paired with a warrior spirit, feisty and fiery when the moment demanded it. Bonnie loved
welcoming family and guests into her home, where she was always ready with a listening ear,
advice, and a delicious meal.

Bonnie was a consummate artist, constantly finding and creating beauty in a variety of
mediums. She wielded her paintbrush like a wand to transform normal bedroom walls into
beautiful fairytale murals, complete with castles, princesses, and dragons. Creating these
magical spaces for her children and grandchildren brought her pure joy. A talented seamstress, Bonnie crafted costumes from whole cloth, and had skills in tailoring and upholstery as well. She generously shared these talents with family and friends, who frequently brought her clothes to mend. She found a way to fix anything broken in her home and constantly taught herself new skills, even independently designing and building her own kitchen island.

Her eye for interior design, art, and antiques was impeccable, and she brought color and life to outdoor spaces as well. Bonnie designed and cared for beautiful gardens bursting with lilies, roses, irises, and more. She felt peaceful with her hands in the dirt, weeding or planting something new.

Bonnie and her husband Matthew loved hosting joyful celebrations, including 2 family weddings, at their beautiful home. She was blissfully content when eating, talking, and listening to great music with her loved ones. She passed this love of food and music to her children and grandchildren, who cook and make music for their own friends and families now.

Bonnie was born in Baltimore, MD, the daughter of Viola and Richard Fitzgerald. While she
spent most of her life in Maryland, Bonnie raised her family in Arkansas for a decade. Long after returning back to Maryland, she still said some words with an Arkansas accent.

Bonnie is predeceased by her sisters Beverly and Cheryl, her brothers Richard and Ronald, and her son Charles.

Bonnie is survived by her husband of nearly 40 years, Matthew; her siblings, Linda and Alan;
her children, Shirley, Curtis, Matthew and wife Stephanie, Connor and partner Kelsey, and
Caitlin and husband Stephen; her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Clayton, Aubrey, Avery, Shay, Cole,
and Evelyn; and her great grandchildren, Daniel, LeeAnna, Richard, Dylan, Noah, and Mateo.

A memorial service honoring Bonnie's life will be held at Sinking Springs Retreat Center in Elkton on Saturday, March 15th, 2025, 4:00pm-5:00pm. Followed by a visitation from 5:00pm-6:00pm and reception begining at 6 pm.
